Conducting business in Curaçao

In some cases, an authorization for establishment is required in order to start a business in Curaçao. This license is issued by the Department of Economic Affairs, but not every application is granted on the grounds that the government wants to protect small local business owners in certain sub-sectors against foreign competitors. Please contact the Ministry of Economic Development on Curaçao.

The business sector provides a favourable business climate, so that economic growth in Curaçao is created and implemented. The Ministry of Economic Development is responsible for the implementation.

The Chamber of Commerce acts as an advisory body. In practice it means that activities for the local market - that do not yet exist in Curaçao - are welcomed. Activities that compete with small local business owners are not automatically admitted. This requires consultation.

Business activities for a foreign market are always welcome; in most cases the authorization for establishment is rapidly issued. If you are in the Netherlands, please contact the Economic Information Service (part of the EVD): www.english.rvo.nl for specific questions regarding starting a business in Curaçao.
